Thursday, May 8 - Thessaloniki

We are now officially in Greece! So far it’s living up to all the hype I’ve heard for years.

We loaded the bus in Igoumenitsa, made a stop at a grocery store for lunch food, and were on the road for our 3 ½ hour drive to Thessaloniki. We did stop once at a bar/convenience store to stretch and eat our lunches, and were quite mystified at the large swimming pool (filled with brackish water) that appeared to be part of the property.

Pulling into Thessaloniki was exciting. It is a beautiful area, with the Mediterranean on one side and lush green hills and mountains on the other. Our hotel is right on the Mediterranean, with a promenade that (I think) goes the length of the city.

Once in our rooms (which are really quite beautiful) the choir took off in all directions to explore the area. We came together in the early evening to drive to the LDS branch that is located downtown on Aristotle Square. We met with the branch president briefly, then set up in the square to sing and try to gain some interest for the missionaries, both sisters and elders, who were eager to meet people. The choir sang for about 30 minutes, and there was a small crowd of people who stopped to listen to both the music and the missionaries.

Once this event was finished, the choir split into groups and headed off to find dinner and enjoy the rest of the evening. There is much here to enjoy!
