Tour - 2014 Oregon

April 28: Meridian, Idaho

April 29, 2014 12:00 AM
Greetings form Meridian! We gathered at the Harris Fine Arts Center late morning, and quickly figured out how to load all of the luggage and other other supplies under the bus. There was great motivation to move expeditiously, as we suddenly were hit with winter again, and snow was falling steadily. We have a coach with all of the comforts of home, including wireless and power outlets. It's too nice to call it a bus.

April 29: Caldwell, Idaho

April 30, 2014 12:00 AM
Our first full day of tour has been just that – full! We reconvened from our various lodgings this morning so that we could drive to Eagle High School. The school has a fine choir who was busy preparing for their own concert tonight. Mr. McMullen rehearsed them while Dr. Staheli offered a few helpful comments. Singers performed a few numbers for them both as rehearsal and performance since they would not be able to attend the Singers concert tonight, and I think the choirs enjoyed the experience.

April 30: Richland, Washington

May 01, 2014 12:00 AM
Today was a long bus day, broken up intermittently by stopping to buy something (usually edible). The ride itself was punctuated with loud laughter from the middle of the bus, where a computer game enraptured quite a few of the choir. We left Caldwell soon after 9, and finally arrived in Richmond, Washington close to 4 pm. There was no trouble locating our destination, as Ben Walley is from Richland and Tyrell Wilde from just down the road.

May 1: Auburn, Washington

May 02, 2014 12:00 AM
May 1: Auburn, Washington Today’s bus ride was only 3 hours, so we bounded onto the bus without too much dread after saying our fond farewells to the hosts of the past 12 hours. This was a short stay! We are very grateful for the great planning that enabled a beautiful concert last night, and for the wonderful care that has been taken of the choir.

May 2: Salem, Oregon

May 03, 2014 12:00 AM
May 2: Salem, Oregon Three hours of driving through lush, beautiful, tree-covered hills—we’d love to take a little of this back to Utah with us! One expressway we passed was called “Enchanted;” that sums up the Pacific Northwest. This may be our last day above 70 degrees and without a chance of rain, so we enjoyed it to the fullest.

May 3: Kirkland & Kenmore, Washington

May 04, 2014 12:00 AM
And we are back in Washington once again, after saying a fond farewell to our new friends in Salem. What a wonderful day and concert we had with them! The bus beckoned to us, though not very alluringly at this point. We had the luggage loaded in short order, and the choir boarded with their year's supply of food that their generous host families sent along for lunch. We are being well taken care of, no question.

May 5: Seattle & Redmond, Washington

May 06, 2014 12:00 AM
Today we loaded the bus at 9 am and headed into Seattle to see what adventures we could find. Most of us wandered through the Pike Place Market, enjoying the incredible flowers that were for sale, tasting any free food samples that were offered (the fruit was remarkable) looking at all the beautiful and interesting wares that were for sale, and watching men toss around large dead fish.

A bonus video!

May 06, 2014 12:00 AM
I've been getting lots of requests, so here is a video from May 1 in Auburn. Judge the videographer, not the choir. Handheld iPhone with real, live people surrounding me. Sorry I cannot do professional video; maybe we'll have that another tour. To hear true good quality, please find one of our CDs, DVDs or downloads. But here's how it looks in concert.

May 6: Tacoma, Washington

May 07, 2014 12:00 AM
We began our frequent goodbyes today - we will have new host families every day for the rest of tour. We all almost felt like part of the family after three nights in the same homes! It was a lovely weekend, and we are very grateful to Lee Hilton of the Seattle BYU Alumni, and all who helped him make our time there so very successful. We leaders heard today that last night's Family Home Evening turned into another devotional with talks and music, much like Sunday night's.

May 7: Bremerton, Washington

May 08, 2014 12:00 AM
We have had a good day, considering all. We woke to find the clouds completely cleared out, and a vivid blue sky in their place. A very fair trade, I think! We bid adieu to yet another wonderful set of sponsors and host families this morning after our (maybe) 9 hours with them. These one-night-stays are challenging for everyone. We celebrated our rare day of sunshine by driving on to our ultimate destination, and finding a park to eat lunch and just relax for an hour or so. It was on the Sound, and very pretty.

May 8: Hood River, Oregon

May 09, 2014 12:00 AM
We boarded the bus promptly this morning, and were happy to have two out of our three sick Singers return to the fold, feeling better. The one still missing will rejoin us tomorrow. Dubious Mexican restaurants are now banned. (Although they say it looked very reputable.) Rather than travel back the same road that we have come to know so well, we took the ferry across the Sound to reach Seattle.

May 9: White Salmon, Oregon & Centralia, Washington

May 10, 2014 12:00 AM
We said goodbye to yet another wonderful and generous group of host families and sponsors, and jumped on the bus to travel to White Salmon. We saw beautiful scenery going, but it was even more spectacular driving on to Centralia, Washington as we traveled through the Columbia River Gorge, this time in more sunlight.

May 10: Portland, Oregon

May 11, 2014 12:00 AM
This has truly been a wonderful day. After bidding our hosts a fond and grateful goodbye, we bused into Portland, about a two-hour journey.
